Founded in 1886, the Oxford Economics Society holds the distinction of being the world’s oldest university society dedicated to the study and discussion of economics. The society has a rich history, with members closely following the evolution of economic thought for over a century.

It continues to serve as an intellectual hub, bringing world-class academics and industry leaders together with curious students to discuss the most pressing questions in economics. In recent years, we have had the privilege of hosting distinguished speakers such as Ben Bernanke, Olivier Blanchard, Hal Varian, and Ha-Joon Chang.

ABOUT US

We are open to all students of the University of Oxford, both in undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, and to students of Oxford Brookes University. Members are able to discuss their ideas with speakers and among themselves in an informal setting, developing insights into topics that matter, from the economics of climate change to the role of biases in decision-making and economic models.

Feel free to contact us at events@oxfordeconsoc.org for thoughts and questions.
